Kuwala Health Media-KUHEM a local non-governmental organization spearheading the fight against cervical cancer says the fight against cervical cancer has had mixed reactions in the two year period.

Kuwala Health Media Director of Health Dr. Solomon Chomba said among the successes include increased knowledge about the disease through  massive awareness campaigns which have helped increase the number of people seeking  screening services countrywide.

Dr Chomba however said  provision of primary health care as well as lack of resources in supporting the facilities has been some of the major challenges.

“We are happy as KUHEM  that our campaigns are bearing fruit but the challenge has been inadequate resources to meet the demands in our partners hospitals,” said Chomba.

Chomba   then disclosed that plans are underway in establishing community cancer clinics for easy access of the services.

“We want to bring the services close to the communities for easy access to medical treatment,” he said.

Elizabeth Chawinga a community member at Luwinga township welcomes the development as a step ahead towards the fight against the pandemic.

“This is a good move and will help many women to seek medical attention close to their door steps which will definitely increase the numbers,” she was quoted saying.

Kuwala Health Media started its operations two years ago and is working in partnership with Mapale Health Centre and the Mzuzu Central Hospital. Among others the organization has been donating  vinegar and other medical supplies such as drapes  including the cryo gas used for cryo therapy.
